Groove Groove is another product in the Microsoft line of collaboration tools. Besides being a standalone peer-to-peer collaboration environment; it is a Sharepoint client. This product can be useful for sharing among ad-hoc teams that cross organizational boundaries, or for mobile workers. Ad-hoc groups can quickly create a workspace and have files, discussions, even IM discussions stored on each members’ PC. The advantage for mobile workers is that all files and data are resident on the PC, accessible through Groove even when not connected to the network. Groove is bundled with the Enterprise version of MS Office. It could be a viable solution for small teams when circumstances are such that creating a workgroup on an intranet portal seems a stretch, but file sharing and consolidating information is still needed.
